The Highly Sensitive Person, by Elaine Aaron, Ph.d

This book changed my life when I first read it 7 years ago.  It also helped me to understand that I wasn’t defective, but that I needed to approach life differently and helped me to see that I wasn’t alone.  I constantly recommend this book to people

The Empath’s Survival Guide, by Judith Orloff, MD

A recent read that was also a life-changer.  Filled with practical advice and techniques for the most sensitive of the highly sensitive with links to more resources on her website.

The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz

This book is now a classic, but it is filled with four simple guidelines for flowing through life with ease and grace, instead of struggling against the flow.  I always fall back on this one in times stress.

The Seat of the Soul, by Gary Zukav

A classic now, but Zukav paints a clear picture of the difference between what society thinks power is versus the true source of authentic power.

Be As You Are: The Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharishi, edited by David Godman

Timeless wisdom and advice for those on a spiritual journey.  Sri Ramana died in 1950, so this book reads a little old fashioned, but flip open to a random page, and you will find something helpful.

Living An Inspired Life, by Wayne Dyer

Read this if you need a little help feeling connected to something greater than yourself.

Living the Wisdom of the Tao, by Wane Dyer

A wonderful companion to Dr. Dyer’s book Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.  It just has his translation of the Tao Te Ching and affirmations for each verse.  I keep this by me desk to flip open at random when I need some inspiration or guidance.

Secrets of Meditation, by davidji

Yes, this is written by my mentor, personal teacher and friend.  A great read if you want to better understand the landscape of meditation as a practice; Also is a good remedy for stress by bringing more peace into your life.

Write It Down, Make It Happen, by Henriette Anne Klauser

A book  all about knowing what you want, and getting it!  At the end of each chapter there are exercises for practicing the lessons.  Make your dreams come true!

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Sri Swami Satchidananda

This was core reading for me during my studies.  But I come back to the Yoga Sutras again and again.  Yes, meditation is yoga

The Upanishads, translated by Eknath Esawaran

A beautiful ancient text all about the investigation of consciousness.  Whenever I read it I think, “Oh, how beautiful!” Includes a Sanskrit glossary and historical background.

When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times By Pema Chodron

All about widening the circle of compassion in the face of life’s suffering.  Read this and be fortified.
